What is Hemcore BioMat?
Hemcore BioMat is a completely natural and fully biodegradable hemp fibre fabric for landscaping, tree planting, mulching, erosion control and horticulture.
Mulching and Tree Planting
BioMat prevents unwanted weed growth by eliminating the light essential for plant growth, and by providing a tough physical barrier. At the same time the fibrous structure of the fabric allows moisture penetration, making it an ideal material for use as a mulch to aid sapling establishment. The rate of deterioration will depend on climate and soil type. The heavy weight and robust nature of BioMat enables it to be used without the need for fixing pins.
Landscaping
BioMat protects soil surfaces from erosion by wind and rain, and therefore has many uses as a geotextiles in landscaping and civil engineering. Hemp fibres have an attractive and natural light brown appearance.
Versatile
The multi-functional, attractive, environmental and easy-to-use properties of BioMat make it an extremely versatile product. As well as being used for landscaping, tree and hedge planting, temporary paths and roads, and embankment stabilisation; BioMat is also used in horticulture as a weed suppressing mulch, as plant pot covers and for lining hanging baskets.
Exceptional Ecological Profile
The hemp fibres are extracted in a factory in Essex from hemp straw grown exclusively for Hemcore on British farms. The hemp is grown without the use of herbicides or pesticides and the fibres are extracted in a clean, chemical free and waste free process.
